A Hunting Lodge Themed Christmas




Hi friends!
I am really excited to share with you what our main Christmas vignette looks like. The "theme" of it wasn't planned at all, it just so happened that the parts just fell into place. I used things I already had and just tweaked them to make it work. It's nice when that happens, isn't it?! :)  My theme is very lodge-like, rustic, and just a whole lot of fun!  This area I am showing you is in our living room near the television and what the seating faces, so it's the main show. In another post I'll show you decorating around other parts of the house. Beware, this post has a whole stinking lot of photos. I hope you enjoy. :)



























Phew! If you stuck around through all that, I thank you! :) I really like how vintage boxes of ammo, antlers and plaid luggage get me in the Christmas mood!

Fall Inspired Ladder + Wreath


Hello folks! I was doing a bit of summer cleaning today and started pulling out my boxes of fall decorations to play with. I feel late to the party with all the gorgeous fall home tours around blog land, but living in very hot and humid Florida, it's sometimes hard to get into the spirit of the cooler seasons. (At least at first!) :) 
A few days ago a made a 6 ft. tall ladder with the intentions of using it in the living room to put various decorations on. I made a similar but shorter one for our bedroom months ago and just loved how that one turned out.
I dug around in my fall stash until I could accessorize my new ladder for the living room and this is how it turned out: 



I added the wreath to it then wrapped a cute patterned piece of fabric around the wreath and accented the ladder with a cornbread pan. Simple but makes a great autumnal statement.

Master Bedroom Reveal

 Hi folks! Get ready for new wood floors, basket wall art and a DIY ladder! This post has been a long time in the making I am so thrilled to finally share with you our master bedroom. A lot of TLC has been put into it. When we bought our house, it had a navy blue carpet in the master that I despised. Not only was it ugly, but it would show every single piece of lint and every tuft of light colored cat hair (2 cats, mind ya.) So, it had to go. And with it gone came new flooring and an overhaul of the furniture and decor. Yay! I hope you all enjoy as much as I do. :) 
Above the bed, I took a large frame that I had painted and added a wreath to the middle. Simple and rustic, just the touch I was looking for.
 I hung some baskets on the wall around the room for more texture.



The ladder was a DIY project that was easy and provides a great visual.

Mammoth Sunflowers + My Tips!



Hello friends!
Even though our area has been having very strong thunderstorms as of late (Florida summers for ya), the garden is still holding on and my giant sunflowers have even made it through alive! Hip hip hurray! Here are a few of my tips on growing these bad boys in a zone 9b Florida garden:


Tip 1: Plant directly into the ground when it's warm and give them lots of space, they don't like to be crowded! I put about 3 seeds in a small triangle and then remove all but the strongest seedling when they get a few inches high. Only the strong continue on! :)
Tip 2: They are heavy feeders; amend the ground with a some compost and give them a little fertilize every so often...they are also fast growers!
 Tip 3: To help them live up to their mammoth name, plant them next to something that you can anchor them to. I used fence posts that were already in my garden and as they grew I tied them off to it. This helped keep them from breaking during the storms!
 Tip 4: Sunflowers LOVE the sun! Full sun all the time is what they prefer.
 Tip 5: Be aware they will create a feeding frenzy of birds and bugs! So, planting them right next to your tomatoes might create a buffet of sorts. :)
 Tip 6: To harvest the seeds, wait until the heads drop and the backs of them go from green to yellow/brown. Or, cut them before and put them in a vase!
